Fighting for Your Future, Every Step of the Way

Getting to Know Us

Even under the best circumstances, navigating an unfamiliar court system, especially the criminal justice system, can be overwhelming.   You deserve someone who will walk you through the process every step of the way; twice, if it helps.  The Law Office of Kristin L. McGough was founded on the premise that you shouldn’t have to give up your financial security to afford a strong, competent lawyer who will advocate vigorously on your behalf.   There is no minimum fee; we work with individuals regardless of means, and do our best to come to an arrangement that benefits everyone. That you may not be able to afford Washington’s “elite” does not mean you have to settle for a second-class defense team.

After graduating from law school, Kristin served as a law clerk to the Honorable Joan Zeldon (now retired) at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, where she worked on both complex civil litigation matters and landlord tenant disputes. Prior to starting her own firm, Kristin also served as an Assistant United States Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.  While at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Kristin oversaw the prosecution of domestic violence misdemeanors, including assault, threats, destruction of property and cruelty to children.  She has also written numerous appellate briefs, and has argued before the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.

Kristin received her J.D. and a Certificate in Law and Public Policy, cum laude, from The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, where she initiated the law school’s first pro bono service program. She also holds an M.Sc. in Evidence-Based Social Work from the University of Oxford and a B.A. in Government from The College of William and Mary.

Kristin is barred in Maryland, the District of Columbia and a variety of federal courts.
